MARY: I had a triple mastectomy. The triple mastectomy is when your spouse levels a month before your surgeries so you end up losing three boobs at the same time. That's a triple mastectomy. But that's to Dr. Small and Dory [phonetic] and Juliet who are three of my angels, I feel good, I look good, number one the fact that I'm alive is miraculous to me, I'm so happy to be here. Any day you wake up and you're on this side of the dirt is a good day. And because of my surgery I'm here. Because of the reconstruction and the care, you know, the compassion that I received from Dr. Small and his staff, I feel great. I feel blessed. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of Dr. Small and Juliet and Dory and think about what they did for me.
They were there whenever I needed them, they would call me when I didn't call them, they would call to check on me. I'm a nurse and from my perspective Dr. Small and his staff gave me the best care I could have ever dreamed of. Because of them I'm more alive than I was before. I am so happy to be here. They made me feel so good, they gave me so much and because of that, here I am. Surviving and thriving.
He is absolutely extraordinary and he draws extraordinary people to work for him as well. So when you walk in there and you're cared for by them, you feel the love, I'm telling you, you know. You walk in at the worst time of your life and you leave feeling like you, or knowing that you're in good hands. You're in really good hands.
Well I was on my own and they took me under their wings and they made, they nurtured me, they didn't just correct what the mastectomies had undone, they didn't just put that back, they gave me so much care, they gave me my esteem. They took good care of that. They gave me my dignity and they, I don't know, I love them to pieces. I really do.
The great thing about having reconstruction is that if I get to be 92, the girls are still going to look like they're 29, which is awesome. So there. I love it. So, you know, I'm all set. I'm happy.
