DR. TZVI SMALL: Hello. I'm Dr. Tzvi Small and I'm a Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. I'd like to welcome you to my website and invite you to look around. It's been specifically designed to answer some of the more frequently asked questions about various medical procedures, but if you have any other questions I'd love to hear from you.

My practice is primarily devoted to microvascular breast reconstructive surgery. I'm one of fewer than a hundred plastic surgeons in the United States who routinely performs D-I-E-P or Diep Flap Microvascular Breast Reconstruction. It's an advancement over the standard tran flap, as it offers a more rapid recovery and less abdominal wall weakness. It also offers a more natural appearing breast, which is important to women and their self-esteem.

And that's important to me because I care deeply about my patients. It's the way I was brought up. My father is a psychiatrist and my mother is a psychiatric nurse. So I saw at an early age the healing effect that compassionate health care professional can have on someone. They use talking therapy, I use a scalpel, but in many ways our goals are similar, to heal a patient's wounds whether physical emotional or both. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than making a woman feel whole again. It's a natural career path for me, not just because of my parents, but because I have older sisters. There's no question their influence on me has made me more sensitive to women and their unique concerns.

My business is restoring the female form. I often joke that I can do more for a woman's self-image in two hours using a scalpel than a psychiatrist can do in two years using a couch. The comparison has some validity. Patients often tell me that I've restored their self-confidence enough for them to wear a swimsuit again or be intimate.

That's a great feeling. But I'd rather you hear from some of my patients. They can tell you first hand what the reconstructive process was like for them and how it's impacted their lives. Their stories are inspirational. Please feel free to click on a patient's photo to watch a personal vignette as you begin your own journey towards recovery and healing.
