Paramus and Bergen County Skin Care and Laser Hair Removal – Dr. Tzvi Small

If the body is a temple, then the skin is the facade. Our skin is essential to our overall appearance, and healthy skin exudes beauty and confidence. Dr. Tzvi Small believes that everyone deserves to have healthy, radiant skin. At his practice serving Paramus, Bergen County, and surrounding communities, he offers laser hair removal and skin care treatments that are among the most advanced and effective available.

Laser Hair Removal

Many people have areas on their bodies where they would like to have less hair. For men, the upper arm, back, and chest regions are the most common problem areas. For women, dark, coarse hair on the upper lip, forearms, and other areas can cause self-consciousness and embarrassment. To help these patients reduce or eliminate hair and feel more confident about their bodies, Dr. Small's Paramus and Bergen County practice offers laser hair removal.

Laser hair removal is fast and effective and produces long-lasting results. This procedure involves the application of concentrated laser light to the hair follicles. Since light is naturally absorbed at a greater rate in darker objects than light-colored objects, the laser is able to focus a great deal of energy into the dark hair follicles, effectively damaging the follicle to the point where hair is unable to re-grow. Because this interaction is so specific, the surrounding skin remains essentially untouched and unaffected.

The procedure is quick, and the only side effect is a small amount of localized inflammation. Additionally, the therapy is most effective in removing darker, coarser hair as opposed to light hair. Fortunately, it is the dark hair that is usually of concern to our patients.

Microdermabrasion

Dr. Small's Paramus practice offers microdermabrasion, a skin care treatment popular for its non-invasive nature and excellent results.

Microdermabrasion involves the use of fine abrasives such as zinc oxide or aluminum oxide crystals to lightly slough off the outermost layer of dead skin. This layer is often responsible for skin discolorations due to sun damage, age, or other factors. Its removal is essential to improving skin health as well as diminishing the appearance of scars and acne. Microdermabrasion works to improve the health of your skin by cleansing skin pores and eliminating dead skin cells. The result is clearer, smoother skin that can breathe thanks to the removal of superfluous cells.

During the procedure, a licensed medical esthetician uses a wand that sprays abrasive crystals to gently and effectively remove dead skin cells. The procedure is fast and painless and can be done without anesthesia. It is suggested that if you begin a microdermabrasion regimen, you should repeat the procedure as recommended by your physician to achieve the most dramatic, long-lasting results. However, we are confident that once you see your new, glowing skin, you will be happy to come back in for further treatment. Chemical Peels

At his Paramus office, Dr. Small performs chemical peels, a skin care option that improves the appearance and health of facial skin. It diminishes imperfections such as blemishes, uneven skin pigmentation, and scars. Unlike other procedures that involve exfoliating (such as microdermabrasion) or tightening skin (such as facelift or Restylane® injections), chemical peels work by removing the outer layer of skin through a powerful chemical reaction. Essentially, when the skin is treated with this chemical, it is encouraged to separate from underlying layers and peel away. The fresh skin underneath is usually healthier and smoother.

Chemical peels have become increasingly popular because of their effectiveness in removing fine lines and wrinkles, as well as providing other skin health benefits.  Patients who are willing to accept slight discomfort during and immediately following the procedure can see long-lasting results after just one treatment. Please contact our office for further information on how a chemical peel can improve your complexion.

Spider Vein Removal

We offer nonsurgical treatments that can remove or reduce the prominence of spider veins.  During the procedure, which is known as sclerotherapy, a solution is gently injected into the treatment area. This solution causes spider veins to fade and disappear, generally within a couple of weeks. Sclerotherapy treatment is often completed in less than an hour,  and anesthesia is rarely required. If you are unhappy with the appearance of spider veins on your face or body, please contact Bergen Plastic Surgery to schedule a consultation.
